Getting a quote

How do I get a quote for 3D printing?

Upload your part files through our online quote form, select your material and finish preferences, and enter the quantities you need. You'll receive an email confirming we've received your files. We then review your parts and send a formal quote covering pricing, lead time, and delivery. Quotes are free and carry no obligation.

How long does it take to receive my quote?

Most quotes are sent within 1 to 2 business days of receiving your files. Complex parts, or parts where we identify a design issue that needs resolving before printing, can take longer — if that's the case, we'll email you to let you know where things stand rather than leaving you waiting.

How long do I have to complete my upload?

Your upload session stays open for 2 hours from the moment you upload your first file. That's ample time to add parts and configure materials, finishes, and quantities. If the session expires before you submit, your uploaded files are cleared and you'll be asked to start again — so if you're interrupted mid-way, it's worth submitting what you have and emailing us about the rest.

Why don't you show prices instantly online?

Every part we quote is reviewed by a person before pricing. Automated instant quoting works from file geometry alone, which can miss printability issues, misjudge orientation and support requirements, and produce prices that change once someone actually looks at the part. We price against real production capacity, so the figure in your quote is the figure you pay.

How is my quote priced?

Pricing depends on the material and technology you choose, the size and geometry of your parts, the quantity you need, and any finishing. Larger quantities of the same part reduce the cost per unit. If you're weighing options, tell us your application and budget when you submit — we can often suggest a material or process that meets your requirement for less.

How do I accept and pay for my quote?

We'll email you a quote covering pricing, lead time, and delivery. Reply to confirm you'd like to proceed and we'll issue payment details. Once payment is confirmed, your order goes into production and you'll receive a tax invoice by email.

How long is my quote valid for?

Quotes are valid for 14 days from the date of issue. After that, material costs and freight rates may have moved, so we'll need to requote. If your quote has expired, send it back to us and we'll refresh it — usually much faster than the original quote, since the file review is already done.

Do you offer accounts or payment terms for business clients?

Orders are payable in full before production begins. We don't currently offer invoice accounts or 30-day terms.

If your organisation requires a purchase order number on the invoice, let us know when you request your quote and we'll include it.

Lead times and delivery

How long does an order take?

Most orders are delivered within 10 to 14 business days from payment. Complex parts and larger quantities can take longer — where that's the case, we'll tell you the expected timeframe on your quote, before you commit.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver Australia-wide, to every state and territory. Shipping is calculated on the weight and destination of your order and is itemised on your quote. Consolidating multiple parts into a single order generally reduces total shipping cost.

Can I track my delivery?

Yes. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order is dispatched for domestic delivery, so you can follow it through to your door.

Quality, IP and how we work

Where are my parts manufactured?

Protoland is a Brisbane-based business. We operate as a manufacturing partner rather than a single-workshop print shop: we maintain a vetted network of production partners, including overseas facilities running industrial-grade equipment, and route each job to the facility best suited to the technology, material, and volume required. This gives our clients access to a wider range of industrial processes than any single local workshop can hold in-house. Every order is managed, quality-checked, and supported from Brisbane, and you deal with us throughout — quoting, revisions, and after-sales support all run through our Australian team.

Who owns the rights to my design files?

You do. Uploading a file to Protoland grants us no rights over your design. You retain all intellectual property in your models, and we make no claim to them at any stage.

We use your files solely to quote and manufacture your parts. Access is limited to the people who need it to do that work, and we don't share your files with anyone else except the production partner making your parts, who is bound by confidentiality obligations. We won't use your parts or images of them in our marketing, portfolio, or case studies without your written permission.

We keep your files only as long as we need them. Files uploaded during quoting are held in temporary storage and cleared automatically once your submission is complete or your upload session expires. Your submitted parts are then held in private storage, accessible only to us, and deleted once we no longer need them for your order. If you'd like your files removed at a specific point, email us and we'll confirm once it's done.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. We're happy to sign your NDA, or provide ours, at no charge — just ask before or when you submit your files.

What happens if my parts arrive damaged or don't meet spec?

Contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos of the affected parts and a short description of the issue. We'll review it with you and, where the fault is ours, remake and reship the parts at no cost. If a remake isn't practical, we'll refund the affected parts.

This covers manufacturing defects, parts that don't match the specification you ordered, and damage in transit. It doesn't cover issues arising from the design itself — such as features that were flagged in our manufacturability review, or dimensional expectations beyond the stated tolerance of the process you selected. If you're unsure whether your application needs tighter tolerances than a process can hold, tell us before you order and we'll advise.

Do you offer design support or DFM feedback?

Yes. Every part is reviewed for manufacturability before we quote it. If we identify an issue that would affect the print — thin walls, unsupported overhangs, features below the minimum printable size, or tolerances the chosen process can't hold — we'll flag it with your quote and explain what needs to change.

We provide the feedback; you make the changes. We don't modify your CAD files or carry out design work on your behalf, so you keep full control of your design. Once you've updated the file, send it back and we'll requote.
